Dr. Gail Barker is a Cincinnati resident who attended Xavier University and the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine for both her Medical Education and Psychiatry residency. Early in her career she was on the University of Cincinnati Faculty full time where she served as an Attending/Director of the Psychiatric Emergency Services and in several community mental health settings. She also coordinated areas of the residency curriculum in these areas. She has been in the full time private practice of Adult Psychiatry for more than 30 years during which time she has continued to train and grow. Subsequent trainings include Systems Training in Family Therapy, Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming), Psychoanalytic Training (completed in 2004), and most recently Certification in Integrative Medicine. These experiences and different viewpoints have allowed her to integrate her thinking and use that which is most helpful to a patient in the moment in an active, collaborative, interpersonal style of therapy. As Volunteer Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, she has continued to be associated with the University of Cincinnati as a supervisor of Psychiatry Residents and moderator of their Third year Psychotherapy Case Conference at a time that they are developing their identities and skills in psychotherapy. Most of her teaching at CPI has been in the area of relational psychotherapy and the use of transference. Her major clinical interests include working with physicians, therapists, leaders, and care givers of all kinds who experience strain and trauma in their roles. She has extensive experience dealing with sexual trauma.
