The Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute (CPI) is currently accepting applications for a new Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Program (CAPP) class that will begin in September, 2018. CAPP is a two-year program offering weekly classes (4.75 hours on 32 Friday afternoons from Sept thru May) on the theory and technique of psychodynamic approaches to work with children and adolescents, in combination with weekly case consultations provided by a CPI faculty member. Continuing education units are offered. Attending by way of video-conferencing systems is available for those beyond the Cincinnati area.

The curriculum consists of three tracks: Concepts, Technique, and Clinical Conference. The Concepts track includes psychoanalytic approaches to developmental theory and to psychopathology in children and adolescents. The Technique classes cover psychodynamic approaches to assessment, parent work, and therapeutic interventions with children and adolescents at different developmental stages. During the Clinical Conferences, participants present clinical material from the assessment and treatment phases of their work. There is an emphasis on approaches to understanding the material and formulating interventions that are suitable for a variety of clinical settings. The program is designed for clinicians working in agencies, schools, hospitals, and private practice, and takes into account the demands of the participants’ practice settings.
